Stonebridge Gardens is a small public open space in the Haggerston area of Hackney. The site is a heavily-used public open space that would be subject to further pressures of use as a consequence of the City Mills regeneration project and the opening the Haggerston Overground station. Hackney Council commissioned Arkwood to address these issues.

Project Objectives
Stonebridge Gardens supported the wide variety of uses typical of a local park but did not respond to the City Mills initiative or the new Overground station in respect of access and circulation. A large open tarmac area at the centre of the site (a former MUGA) was in a poor condition and did not offer the variety of potential uses that a park of this size needed to present. The Arkwood design addressed the spatial and circulatory issues, improved sightlines, created a sequence of new spaces and a variety of facilities for sport and relaxation.
Issues Challenges and Outcomes
Local residents had a series of clear aspirations for the site and we worked closely with stakeholders to synthesise different opinions and ideas into a unified plan for the site that was generally supported.
