Fielding School is a three-form entry primary and one of the largest primary schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The school is conscious of the need to address pupils’ needs for outdoor sport and recreation. Although the school site is well-endowed with open space, its grass pitches (on heavy clay) are often waterlogged and unusable. Fielding School commissioned Arkwood to develop a series of proposals for a new all-weather MUGA to address this issue.

Client and Contract Period

Fielding School

March 2019 – 2023

Project Objectives

The project will deliver a new all-weather multi-use games area for Fielding primary school providing facilities for football, hockey and athletics. The site will be available for community use out of school hours.

Issues Challenges and Outcomes

Local residents had significant concerns about the intrusiveness of the proposed scheme in terms of noise generated and the impact of construction traffic on the local area. Arkwood has carefully considered the siting of the scheme and design details to address concerns around noise and light pollution. The scheme had to be carefully structured to ensure that it secured Sport England permission at Planning.
