Project Objectives

Eastbourne Council had not secured any Green Flags for its parks but recognised the importance of the standard for sustaining the quality its green spaces. The council commissioned Arkwood to develop Green Flag Management Plans for two of its principal sites: Hampden Park and Old Town Recreation Ground. The management plans could be used as a template for future Green Flag applications across the town.

Issues Challenges and Outcomes

Arkwood undertook detailed assessments of the condition of each of the sites and developed management plan proposals for each that responded to the eight criteria set out in Green Flag guidance. We conducted significant engagement with users and residents to capture their views and to ensure that these were reflected in the emerging plans. Eastbourne Council secured Green Flags for both sites in 2015.
