As one of three identified potential sports hubs in Barnet’s Open Spaces Strategy, Copthall masterplan study investigated ways to unlock the sites’ potential, with a distinctive identity and improved connectivity.

Client and Contract Period

London Borough of Barnet

2017-2018

Project Objectives

The site forms part of a suite of intermittently interconnected public open spaces in the centre of the borough. Copthall masterplan study consisted of a number of inter-dependent elements:

• An assessment of connectivity between the masterplan sites and the development of proposals for enhanced pedestrian and cycle links, options for enhanced public transport access
• The development of complementary sports, physical activity and amenity offers across the study area
• The development of a brief for a new distinctive identity for parks within the masterplan area that records and celebrates the characteristics and heritage of these sites, of Mill Hill of Hendon and of Barnet as a whole.
• The identification of revenue generating opportunities
• The development of a funding and governance model.
• Development of a phasing plan leading to full implementation.

Issues Challenges and Outcomes

The master plans have enabled the Council to secure several millions of pounds of external capital investment for parks’ projects across the Borough, in particular at Parsloes Park and Central Park
