Beaversfield is an important local open space resource in an area of West Hounslow that is relatively under-provided with good quality greenspace. The park is heavily used by local residents and has an active Friends group who have delivered a number of improvements in recent years. The Beaversfield Park Masterplan provides a blueprint for the future development of the site.

Project Objectives

Arkwood were appointed by the London Borough of Hounslow to develop a new masterplan for Beaversfield Park in the autumn of 2018.

The adjoining MoD Cavalry Barracks site will be re-developed for housing over the next five years, creating an opportunity for the generation of S106 funds to transform Beaversfield. Significantly, an increase in local population density implies a need to equip the park for greater levels of future use.

The Beaversfield masterplan provides a roadmap for the transformation of this important local park and physical works to the site will progress subject to the release of S106 funds from the Cavalry Barracks.

Issues Challenges and Outcomes

Although heavily used, Beaversfield suffers from an air of neglect and has struggled with anti-social behaviour issues that can be typical of small London parks. The masterplan has focused on addressing issues of dereliction, designing out opportunities for anti-social behaviour.

The masterplan also proposes a series of interventions to rationalise spatial definition and circulation and to refresh tired facilities. The masterplan aspires to create a park that is fit for purpose, has a variety of amenity and leisure opportunities and is easy to maintain.

Arkwood worked closely with the council and the Friends of Beaversfield Park to develop the masterplan which was completed in March 2019.  We have proposed a series of ‘quick-win’ options to address immediate issues while the planning strategy for the Cavalry Barracks site is being developed and formally adopted.
