JSA has been appointed by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to develop a new Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Strategy for the borough. This work will complement the award-winning Parks and Open Spaces Strategy and Corporate Natural capital Account developed for the borough in 2017.
Barking and Dagenham will experience a considerable increase in population over the next 20 years and the borough intends to embed an ambitious set of policy objectives in respect of green infrastructure and biodiversity into the emerging Local Plan. By adopting this approach, the borough can secure a range of positive benefits in respect of climate change mitigation, biodiversity connectivity and community resilience, all of which can delivered by robust, inter-connected green infrastructure.
JSA’s work will focus on the development of a ‘Green Infrastructure Grid’ for Barking and Dagenham as an evolution of the All London Green Grid (2012). The study will also develop a series of outline policies and design principles that will act as supplementary evidence for the Local Plan.
